Recreation Pier At The Wharf

The Wharf DC, Maine Avenue Southwest, Washington, DC, USA

Role on Project

Environmental ConsultantFloating Wetlands Designer

Type of Work Performed

Biohabitats collaborated with Clearwater Mills, LLC and Floating Wetland Solutions to design, build, and plant the floating wetlands located next to Recreation Pier.

A Closer Look at What We Did

Biohabitats designed over 1,650 square feet of floating wetland systems for The Wharf. The wetlands were designed to fit in seamlessly with the environment around them. The design of the floating wetlands was inspired by the ecological history of the area combined with a modern touch. The selection of plants in the wetlands were selected to provide a habitat for aquatic life and be unappealing to other animals such as ducks and geese. This was done to ensure the proper growth and survival of the wetlands. Floating wetlands have a variety of benefits. They improve water quality, provide habitat for aquatic animals and organisms, and help restore native water communities.
