Our education collaborators are working on programs to implement the app in STEM classrooms and clubs for kids and teens nationally and around the world to learn about how engineering shapes our every day lives. Kids and teens in these programs will be invited to connect with engineers through the app so they can meet and interact with professionals in their fields of interest. Please contact us to learn more about the program and how you can participate.

I am...

someone that loves the outdoors and spending time with family and friends. After working for over 30 years as a civil engineer, I dreamed of a better way to help students and professionals discover careers shaping the future. So I co-founded RePicture, a Public Benefit Corporation with a mission to increase interest and diversity in engineering and STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math)

I chose to be a Civil Engineer because...

I enjoy the outdoors and wanted to work with the natural environment. I stayed in civil engineering because I like that you can see the results of your work. You get to make the world a little safer and healthier, while improving people’s lives. For example, after Hurricane Katrina, I helped identify where people could rebuild more safely.

I like my job because...

I get to work with a lot of really smart and interesting people.

My typical day at work involves...

In my previous job as the North America Water Resources Technical Practice Director, my days were filled with lot of emails and meetings! I helped coordinate business development and technical excellence for water resources nationwide for a large engineering firm. This involved helping to develop strategies and bringing together the best resources for our clients. Currently as the CEO of RePicture Engineering, it also involves a lot of emails, meetings, and strategic planning.

I want others to know...

you are probably smarter than you think you are and it’s okay to fail. You learn much more from your failures than your successes. The key is not to make the same mistake twice.

My STEM education has helped me ...

My engineering education has given me the tools and confidence to solve complex problems.

This is My Story

I worked as a civil engineer for 30+ years. The first five years after college I worked as an engineer and then manager doing land development (a.k.a. site design) work. I then got my masters in Civil Engineering with emphasis on water resources and environmental engineering. After my masters I joined a smaller engineering firm that was bought by a larger firm, which was then bought by a larger firm. During my 25+ years with the same firm (but different names) I did a wide variety of technical work, including stormwater nonpoint pollution, environmental compliance, and hazard mitigation. I also became a Program Manager (managing large contracts) and an Operations Manager (managing groups of people). I became a Vice President at the firm (AECOM) and my last position was as the North American Water Resources Technical Practice Director.

I love civil engineering and the ability to make a positive impact on people’s lives. I’ve gone back to see some of the residential developments I designed 30 years ago and I am proud to see the trees that I saved and the ponds that I designed. My work doing hazard mitigation and post-disaster assistance was also very rewarding. However, I left my well-paying job and started a Public Benefit Corporation (i.e., RePicture.com), which is dedicated to increasing interest and diversity in engineering and STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math).
