Our education collaborators are working on programs to implement the app in STEM classrooms and clubs for kids and teens nationally and around the world to learn about how engineering shapes our every day lives. Kids and teens in these programs will be invited to connect with engineers through the app so they can meet and interact with professionals in their fields of interest. Please contact us to learn more about the program and how you can participate.

I am...

I am leading a fantastic team of faculty and staff to build an innovative engineering school that features a hands-on, project-based approach with small classes, outstanding faculty and a strong emphasis on professional development, service that attracts and graduates a diverse cohort of students from a variety of backgrounds

I chose to be a Professor and Dean of Engineering because...

I love to design, create, innovative and strive for excellence (not perfection!) in ways that make a differ nice in the world!

I like my job because...

I get to be jack-of-all trades, I get to mentor young people and help them become awesome engineering professionals, I get to travel, interact with, speak to and collaborate with a wide variety of interesting people and projects

My typical day at work involves...

Teaching and mentoring students, meeting with prospective students and parents, speaking to external groups about the importance of innovation and diversity in engineering education

I want others to know...

That a career in engineering offers a wide variety of opportunities to make the world a better place and make a difference in people’s lives, that we need all types of people from all walks of life to pursue engineering and that it is challenging but totally worth it!

This is My Story

I have loved Math as long as I can remember. I have wanted to teach ever since I started school myself! I love to learn. I also love to speak about the things I am passionate about (engineering and diversity). My career has provided me with the opportunity to do all of these things! I work incredibly hard but I love what I do so much of what I do is not really “work”!

What classes have you used most?

My math classes – not only because I teach this content but also because they taught me problem-solving and creativity (you have to be creative to be able to prove theorems!) and English (because I spend 90% of my day communicating).

What skills have been most important to your career?

Problem-solving, ability to learn and teach myself, communicating, leadership training, ability to explain things clearly!
