Our education collaborators are working on programs to implement the app in STEM classrooms and clubs for kids and teens nationally and around the world to learn about how engineering shapes our every day lives. Kids and teens in these programs will be invited to connect with engineers through the app so they can meet and interact with professionals in their fields of interest. Please contact us to learn more about the program and how you can participate.

Bridge Engineering; Right of Way

I am...

I am a creative person who loves math and art!

I chose to be a Civil Engineer because...

I was inspired by the beautiful structures in my hometown of Chicago to study structural engineering and architecture. Bridges, in particular, help people to travel to their desired destination in a safe and convenient manner.

I like my job because...

I like my job because my projects change throughout the years, allowing me to expand my skills and meet fascinating people.

My typical day at work involves...

My typical day at work involves working with a team to solve problems, depending on the project.

As a bridge inspector, I dressed in Personal Protective Equipment and inspected bridges. As a bridge designer, I work with a team to understand the bridge type and calculate loads to design bridge elements as needed. As a project engineer on a transit project, I coordinate the acquisition of right of way for a new transit line. Also, my work in business development involves research and preparation of responses to Requests for Proposals.

I want others to know...

I want others to know that attaining an education in engineering equips you with the critical thinking skills to tackle issues in any industry. It is a wonderful pathway to help people in a practical way.

My STEM education has helped me ...

My engineering education has helped me to view the world through a fascinating lens and work on projects in different regions of the country.

This is My Story

I cannot tell my story without starting with my parents. My mother is an artist and my father served as a technical professional in the US Navy. I love math and art because of their influence. The soaring skyscrapers and beautiful bridges in my hometown of Chicago also inspired me to become the engineer I am today.

After meeting my husband Jesse at an engineering conference, I landed in Washington, D.C. Today, I enjoy living and working to improve infrastructure around the Nation's Capital.
