Our education collaborators are working on programs to implement the app in STEM classrooms and clubs for kids and teens nationally and around the world to learn about how engineering shapes our every day lives. Kids and teens in these programs will be invited to connect with engineers through the app so they can meet and interact with professionals in their fields of interest. Please contact us to learn more about the program and how you can participate.

Civil Engineering (Structural)

I am...

A senior, at Case Western Reserve University, majoring in Structural Engineering; however, intending to pursue Transportation Engineering in particular roadway design, and traffic analysis. I am passionate about giving back to the local community and helping people's livelihoods.

I want others to know...

I want others to know that I would have never picked to study civil engineering if I did not think that it would have a tremendous positive impact on the community. To me, civil engineers do so much for the community and help the growth and development of the society. Therefore, I want people to know the passion I have when studying civil engineering.

My STEM education has helped me ...

My STEM education has helped not only learn material associated with civil engineering and other STEM disciplines but it has also developed my thought process and how I approach certain situations. Higher STEM education was an opportunity for me to develop a mindset that will help me think creatively and tackle future problems in our society.

This is My Story

As a child, I have always been exposed to the field of engineering by playing with toy legos and being surrounded by engineering-driven family members. During high school, I continued to further my passion for STEM as I had many opportunities to discover many disciplines of engineering from aerospace engineering to computer engineering. However, I really wasn't able to relate to those particular disciplines; therefore, entering college, I was not too sure which discipline of engineering I wanted to focus on. During the first few semesters of college, I took several introductions to engineering classes but did not find my true "niche". However, I was grateful for an opportunity to do research in the field of civil engineering. Through doing research under a structural professor at Case Western, I found a true passion for civil engineering and recognize the amount of community impact civil engineers have in their respective communities.

What classes have you used most?

Some college courses that I have been able to implement in the "real world" are my Civil Engineering Senior Project, Professional Communication for Engineers, and Structural Design 1 class.

What skills have been most important to your career?

Multiple soft and hard skills are important to my career. Some hard skills that I learned in college are AutoCAD, MATLAB, and Excel. These skills are important as all engineering disciplines including civil engineering are really based on several technological programs. Some soft skills that I have developed are public speaking, adaptability to difficult situations, and collaboration and teamwork.
