Project Details
About this project
Union Station is an iconic transportation hub in the heart of D.C. The mixed-use project aims to vastly expand rail capacity to accommodate the anticipated rise in ridership. Additionally, the space above and surrounding the existing station will become a three million square foot destination, to include offices, residential units, retail space and hotel rooms as well as parks and plazas.
Who benefits from this project, and how?
Hundreds of thousand of rail riders pass through this station annually and will continue to do so throughout construction. This project will connect two sides of the city previously divided by the railway and serve as a community hub for locals and visitors. The project also aims to preserve historic elements of Union Station, and remain a cultural focal point and beautiful welcome to the city.
Environmental considerations
A formal environmental assessment will occur to ensure appropriate considerations are included in the planning and execution of this project.
What's unique about this project?
This is the most extensive commercial project in the D.C. area in decades.
