Project Details
About this project
In the middle of 2017, Atlantic Shores Christian School was notified that their current location was no longer going to be available for the next school year. This left the future of the 400 enrolled students in question and with no school to attend. Burns & McDonnell rose to the challenge of designing the 2 story, 40,000 SF elementary building in a few short weeks…the typical design timeline for a project of this nature would be 8 months to 1 year!
Who benefits from this project, and how?
The 400 students no longer need to be transferred to other schools, and now have a newer and safer facility.
What's unique about this project?
Burns & McDonnell designed the 2 story, 40,000 SF elementary building in a few short weeks…the typical design timeline for a project of this nature would be 8 months to 1 year! Burns & McDonnell’s design incorporated multiple features that would support an expedited construction schedule and utilized various methods of construction that lent themselves to the site, existing site conditions and building aesthetic. The design team adapted and modified the typical design process steps to work with the requirements of the owner and meet what seemed like an unachievable schedule. There were also successes that were a result of the holistic planning approach and innovation in design and construction.
